💥 Your Creative Slump Isn't A Stop Sign--It's A Signal! 💥

Hi Reader!

You know those days when you sit down to create, and… nothing happens? Your hands are ready, your supplies are waiting, but your mind? A total blank. The ideas that usually flow so easily feel stuck behind an invisible wall.

It's frustrating, isn't it? That feeling of wanting to create, of knowing you should create, but feeling like you just… can't.

Maybe you start scrolling for inspiration, or maybe you walk away entirely, telling yourself you'll try again tomorrow. But here's something to consider...

Your creativity slump isn't a stop sign - it's a signal!

A New Way to See Creative Slumps

We tend to think of creative blocks as the enemy, something to battle through or avoid at all costs. But what if they weren't something to fix but something to listen to?

Think about it—creativity isn't a faucet you can just turn on full blast whenever you want. It's more like a tide, with natural ebbs and flows. The slow moments, the quiet stretches, the times when inspiration seems out of reach… those aren't failures. They're part of the cycle.

What if you embraced them instead of fearing them? What if, instead of forcing yourself to "push through," you saw them as invitations—to slow down, to explore without expectation, to give your mind and hands a little space to wander?

Creativity Needs Breathing Room

Some of my biggest creative breakthroughs didn't happen while I was actively trying to make something. They happened when I stepped away. When I let myself play without pressure, organize my space, flip through an old sketchbook, or even just daydream.

The key is trusting that inspiration will return. It always does. Your creativity hasn't abandoned you—it's just resting. Gathering fuel for what comes next.

So, if you're in one of those stuck places right now, I encourage you to stop worrying about "fixing" it. Instead, ask yourself:

• What if this pause is exactly what I need?

• What if inspiration is just around the corner?

• What small, pressure-free thing can I do just for the joy of it?

Your Art Is Waiting for You

You don't have to feel creative every single day to be an artist. The act of creating isn't just about making things—it's about staying connected to your creativity, even in the quiet moments.

And those quiet moments? They're not empty. They're full of possibilities.

So go easy on yourself. Keep your hands moving in whatever way feels right. And trust that when the time is right, the ideas will start flowing again.

Inspiration can come from anywhere

After my "Girls" trip this past week, I am filled with love, encouragement, and excitement. My artwork can only benefit from this, and I love knowing it.

What's your favorite way to spark inspiration when it's missing? Hit reply and let me know—I'd love to hear!

xo,

Jackie

Painted Paper Studio March 23, 2024 Hello Reader, I spent the week entirely reworking and re-filming a video on creating transparent mark-making papers. Sexy, right? I had an idea about finishing touches and elevating your art that I wanted to share with you, but the idea got lost in the effort, so I started over. Twenty-five years ago, I had a business creating custom finishes for furniture and cabinetry—I loved that work! I learned that creating a gorgeous finish was not about painting a...

Painted Paper Studio February 18, 2024 I'm not going to lie, Reader, this week's video was exciting to make, but it was last minute, I mean really last minute - and the editing had me stressed (it always does). But... I was so late filming and editing this week's video because I was distracted - in the best way. It started as a kernel of an idea, blew up to gigantic proportions, and then settled on a solid idea for creating a workshop that (I think) you would L.O.V.E. I am still working out...

Painted Paper Studio February 5, 2023 Hi Reader! Over the last few months, several of you have written, asking how I schedule or structure my studio time (none of you used the word structure, but it's what fits best here 😀). So here's the very, very short version and the more extended version is below. Please do me a favor; after you've read, please reply and tell me what a "studio" day is like for you.
